Initially modeled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1946, earlier versions had a square, “waffle”base with the eyes open and looking over the top of the newspaper. Later versions, beginning in the mid-1960s, had a round base with the little boy looking down at the paper as if reading it. At one time, the paper was left blank for visitors to the factory to request a certain name be placed on the paper. This would result in a great many variations available on the secondary market to collect.
